Another Pair

Tromped all over Toronto today to see if any of the vintage stores have a substantial eyeglass selection. Very few of them had more than one or two pairs. Cabaret had a drawer-full, but none particularly inspiring. I asked if they had any cat's eye frames, and the saleswoman told me they'd been in very high demand and that there was a waiting list for them (!).

The best selection was at Black Market vintage, which doesn't have a particularly discriminating selection (they're heavy on silkscreened skull t-shirts) but was having a "everything costs $10" sale. I picked up a metal pair - suggestive of a cat's eye shape but much more rounded - for $10. I might use them as a test drive for the global eyeglasses service. The temples dig into my head a little - they might be too much trouble to wear regularly. Still, I love the shape and I think metal glasses have stood second to plastics for too long. A nice shiny silvery pair can be every bit as hip!

Why Don't I Like Aviators?

I have a post up on Aviator sunglasses. I have to say, I'm not really a fan of the look. I'm usually into more "masculine" styles - I love the nerd look on myself and other women, for example - but can't really get into the Aviator groove. Perhaps because it makes me think of police officers in the 1970's, who knows.

I like the Wayfarer a lot better, but now that I'm seeing them everywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE) I've soured on them a bit.

Anyone Tried Global Eyeglasses for Lenses?

I've heard some good things about Global Eyeglasses' lens service. Anyone have any experience with it? I would enjoy shopping for frames much more if it were less pricey to get prescription lenses put in.

Here's me in my new red glasses

Here's my latest vintage plastic pair.

The label at Fabulous Fanny's said they were 1960's. They are probably my most outlandish current pair.

Got lenses put in my red plastic frames

I think the pupil distance might be a little off (could their machine possibly be less accurate from when I measured my PD in the mirror?)

I have other pages.

Because I am a maniac I have other mini-sites that are about vintage glasses. I think and write a lot about this.

My Squidoo Lens

My Hubpages Hub

Not a lot of content there yet but...I can dream. Perhaps when I purchase more pairs and/or make more discoveries.

Vintage Glasses are Awesome

My first pair of vintage glasses was from Etsy. They were cat's eye, they were aluminum, and they were awesome.

My second pair of vintage glasses was from Fabulous Fanny's in NYC. They were red plastic, they were massive, and they were awesome.

Now, this is getting to be an expensive hobby. When I take them to get lenses put in, the optometrist charges me an arm and a leg. But I just can't stop looking at them. So beautiful.
